There were four scheduled fixtures last weekend however one was postponed due to the opposition not being ready following confusion at a league organiser’s level !!
The Mixed Doubles season kicked off at the weekend however, due to a certain amount of confusion prior to the start of the season some of the teams were not ready and this included Alcester Mixed B’s opposition, so we opted to spare everyone’s blushes and reschedule.
The Ladies As entertained a strong Henley A team at Alcester on Saturday morning. They had a great start to the match winning both of the first rubbers (1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s) however then things changed massively with both pairs losing their second rubbers to finish with a 2-2 draw. Well played and bad luck Mel, Sam, Debbie and Sarah.
The Men’s Bs were away to divisional leaders Stratford B and unfortunately lost the fixture 4-0. Stratford fielded a very strong team while the Alcester B team captain was unable to play, putting the team immediately at a disadvantage. Alcester brought in one of the younger players for a taste of B Team tennis at a very high standard and he acquitted himself well, despite the result. The Alcester first pair of Matt and Barns played extremely well, narrowly losing their rubbers. Well played Matt, Barns, Harv and Sam.
The Men’s Cs were at home to Inkberrow A, who fielded two former Alcester players, so the morning – which was played in excellent spirits – felt at times like an Alcester Tennis Club reunion. Inkberrow A were strong and narrowly took the fixture 3-1, although it could easily have been 3-1 the other way as two of the rubbers were won via championship tie-breaks! Well played Duncan, Tom, James and James!
